(upbeat music) Achieving goals requires communication, participation, and accountability. In the following lessons, you'll learn how to monitor and evaluate goal progress to meet company objectives and facilitate productivity. Once you have your team objectives, individual objectives, and a tactical plan in place, it's important to control and manage the process to ensure your team is on track to meet their goals. This means having a process in place to measure employee performance based on the goals that have been set. There are several ways to provide feedback to employees. Multi-rater performance reviews are preferred because people often function well in teams and team members rely on each other to complete work that meets goals and objectives. One multi-rater method is called a 360 Review. This process gathers feedback from management, peers, and customers to provide a thorough perspective of an employee's work. While this process can be time-consuming, it allows each member of the team to share how each person contributed to the team goals. For this method to be effective, team members must have trust and respect for each other. In a 360 Review, the feedback is collected and shared with the employee. Then the employee and manager can discuss the feedback. Having a conversation about this feedback allows managers to address the specific goals that the employee made and their progress in meeting those goals. Another multi-rater method is the management by objectives method, or MBO method. In this process, the employee is reviewed by whether they achieve their goals or objectives at the end of the predetermined timeframe. This can be a valuable opportunity to learn more about an employee's goals and reflect on how their individual contributions help the team or organization as a whole. A self-assessment can be a valuable method in the performance management process. Usually, it's used in addition to other multi-rater options. A self assessment can give the employee an opportunity to reflect on their goals and the progress they made. Managers can review the employee's self-assessment and address any personal challenges or gaps. Self-reflection can allow employees to feel in control of their professional development and self-improvement. Advantages of a multi-rater review include: professional development, enhancing goal setting for the individual and the team, increasing self-awareness on an individual's quality of work, what they do well and what they can improve on, and confidentiality, which can help people feel more comfortable sharing feedback. Here are some important points to consider when conducting multi-rater reviews. Employees should be trained on giving constructive, effective feedback. When reviewing individuals, team members can be informed of the goals that each employee was expected to meet. These reviews can enhance the company culture by promoting feedback and an open dialogue with team members and supervisors. When evaluating feedback for an individual look for similar or repetitive comments that confirm a particular perspective of an individual's work. If only one person has a negative comment, then it could be a personal opinion or bias. Traditional performance reviews focus on the viewpoint of one person, the manager. These reviews are often based on whether the manager thinks job expectations were met without much room for discussion. The multi-rater method can help evaluate individuals according to goal setting, both as an individual and as a team. While it can be a time consuming process, it helps create a goal-oriented culture.
