Hello. Welcome to Microsoft Visio. In this course, we want to look at how you can update the overall look of your drawings using a tool called a theme. Now, themes are not new to Microsoft Office applications. In fact, Microsoft PowerPoint uses themes a great deal to help you format your PowerPoint slides. You can also use themes in Microsoft Word and Excel to do the same thing. So a theme is basically a combination of color, font style, and even style for how different shapes are created. And they're very powerful in Visio because Visio is basically a combination of shape with relationships. So inside of Visio desktop, you'll see that I have a Design ribbon and most of this design ribbon is taken up by a group of buttons called themes. And these are those built-in formatting packages that we already talked about. There is a pop down out arrow for this theme group and when you click on it you'll see that there's an even greater selection. Now, the great thing about themes in Visio is they work the same way as they would in, for example, a PowerPoint slide. All you do to look or basically window shop for different themes is hover over the top of them. And it's a little bit difficult to see because the pop down gallery takes so much room, but you can actually come to the bottom corner of it and kind of drag it up a little bit so it doesn't take up quite so much room. Start hovering over different themes and you'll see behind, that the drawing will actually update to show you what that theme would look like applied to the drawing. I'm not even clicking here. This is called live preview. It's been around for quite a while in Microsoft applications, but it's pretty cool that really using a theme in Visio is very similar to using a theme as in PowerPoint or Excel. And again, everything in my drawing is updating here. From the color of the shapes to even the color of the connectors between the shapes. So there's lots of different things to pick from, and one more thing I'll mention here is that, especially if you're going to be printing on black and white, there are themes that are specifically made for that, that you can also apply. Once you find one that you like, all you need to do to save it in your drawing is click on it and then that will become your new theme. So it's very easy to update your overall diagram using this tool. Thanks so much for watching. Stay tuned because in the next lesson, we're going to look at how you can find variance to your themes and update those. Stay tuned.
