Hello, and welcome to Knowledge City's course on Advanced Blender 3D. My name is Jay, and today we'll be learning how to edit video and audio in Blender. To get started, we're going to click on File, go to New, and this time we're going to select Video Editing. And we see our entire workspace has changed. The panel to the left is our File Browser, and we'll house all the video and audio assets we'll be using. So I've navigated to my folder titled Blender Media on my computer, and I can now see all the assets. At the bottom of our screen is our sequencer where all our edits will take place. The center area here is where we will be previewing our video files as we edit them. And to the right, we see all the properties of our scene. We're going to be editing at 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels at 29.97 frames per second. First, I'm going to take this video clip in my file browser of a girl dancing and place it into my sequencer simply by dragging and dropping it. And when I do so, we see the video is now in channel one of our video sequencer. And when the video is in the sequencer, it is referred to as a strip. We can think of channels as layers where we can stack videos on top of one another. We can also enable them and disable them as needed with this checkbox. One very important thing to note is that when a video clip is added to our sequencer for the first time, you'll see a progress bar at the very bottom next to the words building proxy. Blender is creating a temporary cache file for the video, which has just been added. This helps us edit large videos without experiencing lag or choppiness. And you can see Blender has done this by opening the folder called BLProxy, which has been created inside the same folder as our video and audio files. If we click on our previewer and press the letter N on our keyboard, we see a dialog fly-out with view settings. It's always helpful to have use proxy selected. We can even lower the on-screen rendering quality from 100 to 25%. This video strip is approximately 10 seconds long, so I'm simply going to grab the end of the strip and drag it to 2 seconds. Now when I press the space bar on my keyboard, we can see this video is now only 2 seconds long. And this is how we edit video and audio in Blender. Thank you very much for watching.
