WordPress has limited built-in post types, including Post and Page. While those are sufficient for many websites, some websites need additional types of content to handle things like business directories, resource libraries, and recipe databases. That’s where custom post types come in. You can create custom post types to handle any content types that aren’t built-in to WordPress. After you create a custom post type, you can link the built-in Categories and Tags taxonomies to filter the content, or you can create custom taxonomies to add even more filtering capabilities.
In this module on Custom Post Types and Taxonomies, you will learn how to create new types of content for your WordPress website. You’ll explore the uses of custom post types and taxonomies, and how to use a plugin to create them. Finally, you will learn how to add custom post types and taxonomies to a WordPress theme.
