Course Description

With this module, you’ll add Bifrost to your Maya toolkit for even more possibilities in your animated simulations. We’ll begin by looking at the new Bifrost node editor, which allows you to visually walk through the full network of node connections, and you’ll learn how to construct an Aero Bifrost node network from scratch. Next we’ll explore the Bifrost editor, and you’ll follow along in the process of exporting, creating, manipulating, and connecting Bifrost nodes to create a simple simulation. Build your network to create more complex dynamic effects in BiFrost. Once you’ve mastered building a simple network, you will be introduced to the new Bifrost Browser, an open library of pre-made dynamic effects; you’ll see how to import complex smoke and fire effects with just a few clicks. Using what you’ve learned about the node editor, you’ll be able to analyze and adjust the node connections of these effects to add customization to your simulations. Finally, you’ll discover one more exciting Bifrost resource: the Bifrost Ocean System Simulator (BOSS), a system of simple tools for creating dynamic open-water visual effects.

What You'll Learn

  • Create a Bifrost node network from scratch using the Bifrost node editor
  • Animate a Bifrost simulation by exporting, creating, manipulating, and connecting nodes
  • Build node networks to produce more complex dynamic effects in Bifrost
  • Import complex smoke and fire effects from the Bifrost Browser preset library
  • Adjust node connections of pre-made effects to customize your simulations
  • Create an open-water ocean simulation using the Bifrost Ocean System Simulator (BOSS)

Key Takeaways

  • The Bifrost node editor lets you visually walk through the full network of node connections in Maya 2022.
  • Learners follow along to export, create, manipulate, and connect Bifrost nodes to build a simple simulation, then expand it into more complex dynamic effects.
  • The Bifrost Browser is an open library of pre-made dynamic effects that allows complex smoke and fire effects to be imported with just a few clicks.
  • Knowledge of the node editor enables learners to analyze and adjust the node connections of imported effects for customization.
  • The Bifrost Ocean System Simulator (BOSS) provides simple tools for creating dynamic open-water visual effects.
