(cheerful music) (symbols ringing) Welcome to implementing policies and procedures for human resources professionals. In these lessons, we'll discuss integrating policy and procedure. You'll learn how to engage management and employees to build support and buy in. We'll discuss the employee handbook, and why it's a great way for an employee to learn about the organization's policies and procedures. We'll address revisions and the review of policies and procedures to ensure what is being presented aligns well with the organization's goals and objectives. We can't complete the process of policy and procedure development without discussing their implementation. Implementation is what moves the organization from developing policy and procedure into action mode. Policy and procedure development has to have an avenue to be heard, seen, and followed. Through the integration of policy and procedure, it's important to be mindful of the organization's current operations. This is because new or revised policy and procedure will be integrated during the organization's usual operations. Employees are already performing procedures, and management is making decisions based on the current policy and procedures that are in place. Now that new policy and procedure are about to take place, current operations are going to change. Before implementing policy and procedure, it's best to determine when and how the policy and procedure need to be integrated into the organization. Factors you can consider include what quarter the organization is in, if there are other changes already taking place within the organization. And if the organization has the capacity to take on new policy and procedure. The timing of implementing a policy and procedure is always important, because the employees are the ones who will be responsible to follow them. If the organization is already in a transition or change that is requiring modifications in how things are being done, adding another policy and procedure can become overwhelming for employees, causing more harm than good.
