(bright upbeat music) Emotional intelligence can be broken down into four quadrants. In these lessons, I will show you how these quadrants relate to your own personal interactions internally and externally. Your understanding of these quadrants can help you move forward in times of change and help you guide others out of the victim mindset. Here is a simple framework consisting of quadrants that you can use to better understand your emotional intelligence. On the left-hand side, you have me and them. And on the top you have inside and outside. Dealing with ourselves is and inside and outside skill as is dealing with others. The upper left quadrant, me inside, applies the ability to understand yourself, how self-aware are you? Have you examined your self-talk? Do you have suppressed memories that drive your emotions? What do you tell yourself that gets in your way of success? The upper right quadrant, me outside, implies your ability to control your emotions and use them wisely. For example, we may be very self-aware but not manage our emotions well, when something feels unfair to us. The lower left quadrant, them inside, is about your ability to empathize with and understand other people. This is a helpful ability especially when times are particularly stressful. One of the best ways to do this is by being a good listener. Finally, the lower right quadrant, them outside, is about your ability to communicate and relate with other people. Do you do this in a way that is encouraging or discouraging? How do your interactions change when you know you're right about something? Our EQ will vary depending on the circumstances. For example, we may have a high EQ in the upper left quadrant as it relates to introspection, and self-awareness. However, we may not communicate well with others and have a low EQ in the lower right quadrant of relationship management.
