Welcome to the lesson on basic operators. In this lesson, I'll just show you some of the basic mathematical and logical operators in MATLAB that you can use in the command line, in your scripts or in your functions. So the first operators that I'm gonna show you are just your simple mathematical operators. So add, subtract, multiply, and divide. So for addition, you know, it is just the plus sign so 3 plus 3 equals 6. For subtraction, it's just the regular the minus sign, so 5 minus 2 equals 3. For multiplication, it uses the asterisks, so 9 times 8 it gives you 72. And then for division, it's the forward slash, so 5 divided by 2 gives you 2.5. Next, I'm going to show you the exponent. So if I wanted to do 2 squared, I would use the caret. So 2 to the power of 2 or 2 squared gives you 4. And then, that pretty much sums up the regular mathematical operators. And now I'm gonna get into the logical operators. And so for the logical operators, I'm gonna be using 0s and 1s. And so the first, I'm going to do is the logical and operator, which is the ampersand. And so if I do 1, if I do 1&0, you get a logical 0. If I do 1&1, you get a logical 1. And next, for the or operator, it is the vertical bar. So if I do 1|1, I get a logical 1. If I do 0|1, I get a logical 1. And if I do 0|0, I get a logical 0. Next, the not operator which is simply the tilde. So ~1 gives you a logical 0. And ~0 will give you a logical 1. Lastly, I'll show you the comparative operators so greater than, less than and equal two. So if I do 4 is greater than 2, it returns a logical 1 which is the same as true. If I do 4 less than 2, it returns a 0 which is false. And if I do 4 equals 2 plus 2, I get a logical 1 which is true. And so in MATLAB, when you're doing equals 2, you use the double equal sign. Because if you use the single equals, the software interprets that as you setting a value or variables the value. So you can't do 4 equals 2, because as you can see, it says incorrect operators being used and you should use the double equals for equality. This concludes this lesson. Thank you.
