Hello, in this particular lesson, we're going to talk about using template files. So let's go ahead and get started. On my screen, Revit 2022 LT is opened. We're at the home screen. We're gonna come over here to the models area, and we're gonna click on New right here. That's gonna bring up Revit's new project template dialogue box. Now, a template file is just a starter file that provides a set of predefined settings. And in Revit's case, the settings are gonna include families, views, sheets, schedules, things of that sort. We're gonna take a look at all of that in this particular lesson here. So right now, let's go ahead and start this one off with one of the out of the box Revit template files. So with Revit LT, I have the residential imperial template and I have the commercial imperial template, and then I have no template at all. Let's click down on a residential imperial template. If you don't have this template, you can always get them from the exercise files. And if you are loading them from the exercise files, in that case, you're gonna come over here and click on the browse button here. And when you bring up the browse button, it's going to allow you to choose the folder location or in your computer, where your templates are stored. I'm gonna hit cancel here. I'm just gonna go ahead and load it. I'm gonna create a new project. We're not gonna create a project template. This is if you wanted to create your own template and set it up. We're gonna keep it at create new project and click on Okay. And after a few seconds, Revit loads up with your default project template which in this case was our residential one. Now, I wanna show you the differences between what different templates may bring you. So right here, when our templates first load up, this template loaded up, and we're starting off with the first floor plan. And in here are our elevation symbols. These are north, our east, our south and west elevations. And if you were to hover your mouse over one of them, it tells you which elevation it is, and which view it corresponds to. Over here on the project browser, it is organized by floor plans, and it has all of these floor plans already generated. It has no legends. It has a few schedules already pre-created. So it has a door schedule. If I was to double click on that door schedule to open it up, it's already set up. Predefined columns, it's already created for you. It also has a room finished schedule and a window schedule so you don't have to go in and recreate those. Let's close out of this. Let's come back over here to the file menu. Let's click on New, and let's click on Project again, and we're gonna choose a different template this time. Let's choose the commercial imperial one. Still creating new project and say Okay here. Let's give it a few seconds to open up. And now we're in that commercial project template. Notice that our elevation symbol is different this time, actually it has text in them. And these text is the sheet and the detail that sheet call out corresponds to. So this is gonna be on sheet A5, detail two. And what I mean by sheets, if I was to come over now in the project browser and scroll down, we have sheets already created for us. So let's look at sheet A5. If I was to double click on this sheet, notice how this sheet is already set up with a title block in it and a couple of views. So this is the views that correspond A1 and A2 to the level one plan that we saw here. Here's the two and here's the one. And to better show you this, let's go ahead and draw a set of walls. So I'm gonna click on the wall tool over here on the Architecture tab. Let's come over here to the rectangle under draw and we're gonna click two points and we're gonna just drag out anywhere, any particular distance, as long as they're in between these two elevation symbols. When we're done creating it, press the Escape key. Now, let's click back on our elevation sheets and we can see that wall that we just created show up on these sheets. Building upon that one model concept, you build it in one place, it replicates throughout the whole project. Let's scroll down through the project browser and see what else this project browser has in it. It has sheets already in here for foundations, for roof framings. It has certain families and groups already created and built into it. Now, we still have opened up our first floor plan from our residential template that we first started out with. And we can see it had a slightly different layout of elements in the project browser here. So your company is probably going to use a predefined set of templates all ready for you so you shouldn't have to build any out from scratch. But if they don't, you now can see the value of having a predefined template with all of your settings already preset in it. This residential one was pretty bland. It only had a few floors plans set up and some schedules. It had, well, it has some sheets in here set up as well. But your company may or may not use these sheets in this format. This probably isn't your sheet naming format either. You can adjust all of this, save it as your own template and start off projects much faster. Let's take a look at where template files are pulled from when you start a new drawing. So let's click on the file menu, let's go to options. And under the options dialogue box, if we were to go down to file locations, here is the location for the two templates that were displayed when I clicked on file New. If I had additional that I would like to have added, I can just hit the plus symbol here, browse to that location, select that template. Let's say this commercial default one here, say open, and now it's added. So when I now go and create a new project, this will be displayed. I can change the order in which these will be displayed here as well by selecting them and dragging them up or down. Let's press Okay here. And now when I go to file New, I have now three templates to choose from. So that was a look at starting new projects from a template file.
