In the first lesson to introduction to the Macintosh, we're going to take a look at the basic anatomy of the screen. I'm using the word anatomy to help you understand that this is a screen built up of components. There are different things that you can find on screen. You should be able to see in the upper left hand corner an apple menu. Next to it, a series of words, these are actually menus themselves. You can pull them down to see a whole selection of items you can pick. On that, you've got on the upper right hand corner a magnifying glass that should always be here. This is spotlight. Remember that, we'll come back to it later. There's also next to that a clock and then some other minulets that may or may not show up depending on the options on your particular Macintosh. You also have some control over what it shows up here and how to remove these items. Across the bottom of the screen, you'll have a semi-transparent area that's the dock. The dock is really key to understanding what your Macintosh is doing at any given moment in time. The dock is actually divided into two parts. The left part is actually just applications. The right side is for documents or for folders.
