The purpose of strategic supply chain management is to create efficiencies in procuring, manufacturing, and moving products from suppliers to consumers while upholding exceptional quality and safety standards. To do this effectively, you must implement various planning processes that help coordinate various parts of the supply chain into one cohesive team. Manufacturing planning and control systems oversee operations management planning, operations execution, and distribution planning. In addition, other processes such as demand planning focus on finding a balance between keeping enough inventory to cover customer orders but not so much that it goes to waste. This enhances your ability to drive profitable growth throughout your supply chain. Sales and operations planning is another facet of support that aligns the internal plan with the external communication with the customer to ensure that everyone is marching toward the same goal.
