Welcome back to Knowledge City's course on Cascading Style Sheets, we're going to learn about formatting a list. Why do we use a list? Well, when things are jumbled, they're really hard to understand and certainly hard to memorize and hard to figure out what we should do first. When we put those items in a list, we get a clear outline of what we have to do. It's certainly easier to read, helps us remember what we have to do. It actually increases our productivity. It gives us a way to manage our tasks, organize our information. We can prioritize items. It provides us a structure and it keeps us motivated to check things off that list. There are three kinds of lists. One is unordered, two is ordered, and three is a description list. An unordered list uses a bullet to signify each item. And we use it when we don't have the items that have to be in a specific order. When they do have to be in order, then we choose an ordered list. Something like steps in instructions or a timeline. And there really aren't any rules about using letters or numbers or Roman numerals. The only issue is you should be consistent. When we have a description list, typically we are defining some terms and we're giving a term and a definition. We can even use different symbols as bullets. If you went into Microsoft Word, you can create your own symbols and they make it certainly very easy. As they specify a Unicode number and you pick from a list. Well, there are over 23,000 symbols that we can use. And Unicode has a unique code for each one. We'll take a look at that in a little while. Where should the bullets go? Well, there are two choices. It's inside or outside. Depending upon how you want your page to look, you have to specify where those bullet points should go. Should they be indented? Should the numbers be outside? And whether it's numbers or bullets, it works the same way. Decide whether they should be inside or outside. To recap, we talked about lists and how they help us remember and organize and manage our life. We talked about the numbers, the bullets, whether they should be letters or Roman numerals or images or even Unicode items. There are locations to put these bullets in, inside, outside, centered. You now understand these concepts. Let's see how we go about coding them.
