It introduces safety data sheets (SDS) — the internationally used standard for documenting a substance's identity, properties, hazards, and safe handling and containment — including the history behind the SDS and a breakdown of all 16 sections of a typical SDS, from substance and hazards identification through first aid, firefighting, accidental release, handling, storage, exposure controls, physical and chemical properties, reactivity or radioactivity, and toxicological, ecological, regulatory, transport, and disposal information.
It is for anyone working with chemical substances in the modern-day workplace who needs to understand how a substance might impact their health or safety and how to interpret safety data sheets in HAZWOPER environments.
You will gain familiarity with chemical hazards, chemical safety, safety data sheets (material safety data sheets), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems, and the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER).
The course is delivered in lessons covering an Introduction, Proper Safety Data Sheets Format, SDS Sections 1-3, Sections 4-6, Sections 7-10, and Sections 11-16, followed by a Conclusion.
You will understand the history and purpose of safety data sheets, know how to identify a substance and any associated hazards, and be able to recognize and interpret details about toxicity, reactivity, and radioactivity.
