In this Confined Space Entry - Entering the Space course, you’ll learn how an entry team tests a confined space for hazards before anyone goes inside. We’ll also cover safe work practices and the roles supervisors, entrants, and attendants play during an entry. These practices are critical for protecting workers from oxygen, flammable, and toxic hazards in confined spaces. With these foundations in place, we’ll move through each stage of a safe confined space entry.
We’ll examine how atmospheric testing works, detailing the oxygen, flammable, and toxic checks required before entry. You’ll gain the ability to recognize when ventilation, permits, or protective equipment are needed, and you’ll strengthen your understanding of how lockout and tagout reduce physical hazards. We’ll also cover the duties of supervisors, the responsibilities of entrants, and the monitoring role of attendants to give you a complete understanding of confined space entry. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to recognize confined space hazards and support a safe, well-managed entry.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify atmospheric hazards that make confined spaces unsafe
• Explain how oxygen, flammable, and toxic tests protect entrants
• Apply safe work practices that reduce confined space risks
• Distinguish the duties of supervisors, entrants, and attendants
• Determine when to evacuate a confined space
It covers how an entry team tests a confined space for hazards before anyone goes inside, including atmospheric testing with oxygen, flammable, and toxic checks; safe work practices such as ventilation, permits, protective equipment, and lockout/tagout; the roles of supervisors, entrants, and attendants; and when to evacuate a confined space.
It is for workers involved in confined space entry, including those acting as supervisors, entrants, and attendants who need to recognize confined space hazards and support a safe, well-managed entry.
You will build skills in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, and safety science — specifically identifying atmospheric hazards, understanding oxygen, flammable, and toxic testing, applying safe work practices, distinguishing team roles, and determining when to evacuate.
The lessons are: Entering the Space; Testing for Hazardous Atmospheres; Safe Work Practices for Confined Space Entry; Conducting a Safe Entry - Supervisors and Entrants; Conducting a Safe Entry - Attendants and Evacuation; and a Review.
