In this lesson, I will show the importance of color correction in Adobe Premiere Pro. Color correction plays a crucial role in video editing, as it enhances the visual appeal and storytelling of a video. It involves adjusting the colors, tones, and overall appearance of the footage to achieve a desired look and maintain consistency throughout the video. Let's get started. So the first thing that you'll want to do when you are going to color correct is make sure that you are in the color correct workspace. And so again, to get to your different workspaces, then you'd click on this icon here and it brings up the various workspaces that you are able to use. So we're already in color. And now when you open this up, you'll see that this Lumetri scope, the colors are all over the place as far as what colors are available. The more spread out this Lumetri scope is the more colors that are available. So if we were to bring in a different clip, then you would see that the Lumetri scope does shift a little bit because there are less colors available. And then if we brought in even another one, then you'd see that the colors are a little bit more spread out, but there are less colors than in this one here. And also one other thing to note is when you're in the color workspace, any time you clicked towards a clip above it, then it will automatically select the clip for you that you're going to color correct depending on what level you have toggled on. So if you had V2 open and let's say this clip is over top of this one, so we started here and now you'll see that it goes to that clip rather than to that clip there. But if we were to select V1 here, then it goes to the bottom clip instead of the top clip, and though you are seeing in the Lumetri scope, the colors for this top layer here. So that's just something to be mindful of because you could be going into color correction and you're actually color correcting something different. Now color correction allows you to fix any exposure issues in your footage. You can adjust the brightness and darkness of it and you want to do this to ensure that you have proper exposure. It also helps in adjusting the contrast to create a balanced and visually pleasing image. So speaking of balanced, you want to make sure that your color is balanced as well. So color correction helps achieve consistency throughout a video by balancing the colors. One specific aspect of color correction is improving skin tones. So you can see here his skin looks pretty good here, but you can definitely jump in and make sure that the skin tone is balanced. So one other thing you can do is you can create a mood. So there is a difference between color correction and color grading that you might hear. So color grading is a subset of color correction. Color grading allows you to affect the entire video and not just specific colors and it gives it more of a look. So whether you're going for something that's more of a sepia look or black and white or if you want to kind of do something that's like a merge of teal and orange, then you can certainly do that as well, but that's color grading. And you can also fix the white balance of a clip as well. So you want to make sure that the whites are true and an accurate representation of that color as well as neutral colors in a scene. Different lighting conditions can result in a color cast on the footage, making it look unnatural color correction allows you to adjust the white balance to remove unwanted colors and unwanted tints in your video. So congratulations, you've learned just a little bit of an overview of color correction in Adobe Premiere Pro. In addition to these key points, color correction also involves adjusting saturation levels, enhancing specific colors to draw attention and applying creative looks or filters to achieve a unique visual style. Stay tuned for the next lesson where I will show you how to use color correction and the color correction workflow. Thanks for watching.
