Hello, welcome to Knowledge City's Intermediate Course on Adobe Photoshop. My name is Jeff Jarlewitz, and today, I'll be teaching you how to fix blemishes with the Spot Healing Brush. So when I come over here, I've got my Spot Healing Brush as a Band-Aid with a bit of a selection icon next to it. So what is a Spot Healing Brush? This is a tool that will blend or correct minor blemishes or imperfections. It can also be used to remove small objects from an image, but please note that this brush is not great for removing large objects. So what I'm going to do is just zoom in on my image here. Remember, for zooming, you can always hit Command plus, and I can use my Space Bar with any tool you can hit the Space Bar and drag your image around, and I'm going to fix the blemishes I see on the face here. So with the Spot Healing Brush, remember, it has the same properties as a brush. So if I were to click up here at the top, we can see that I can change the size, I can change the hardness, the spacing, and the angle of my brush. I'm going to leave the spacing down near the bottom, so I don't want that to be jumping around. For this one, I want the hardness to be brought down, right, because I don't want a hard edge of my brush, I want a very soft edge on the brush. We've also got the size here as well, but again, remember, you can use your bracket keys next to the letter P, to the right of the letter P, to resize your brush much quicker than you can, having to constantly go up and move your slider bar around. One thing I also want to be aware of, too, is that I have my brush set to Content Aware, because what that's going to do is that this way Photoshop is looking to take a from and recreate the surrounding pixels of the area I'm trying to use the Hot Spot Healing Brush on in the first place. So once I've set my brush to my desired size, I'm going to just brush over. One thing I do before I start this, I'm going to hit Command J, so that will make a duplicate of my image. That way I have a backup in case you need to go and do something, because this is a destructive editing method, because what is happening is I'm destroying these pixels, I'm altering them, I'm changing them. So in this case, I'm making a backup just to play it safe. So now I'm going to start brushing over these spots. Though you see me working over the forehead here on that first one, and for the most part, it's a pretty easy process when you've got smaller things like this. I'll keep working my way through all of these. Now when I get to areas that there are other maybe shadows or hair and textures, you have to be careful, because you might end up spot healing those into your selection, into the pixels and it might get a little weird. So I'm going to zoom in on this spot here so I can see it a bit closer. So for her nose here, I am going to shrink the brush down a bit smaller. Here I'm going to go even smaller than that one. And for the hair, what falls over the hair on this one, I'm going to do these just small in one at a time, because you might have the urge to make your brush big and just go, you know, get everything at once. But what could happen if you do that? You see, it's going to start pulling in pixels from the hair as well. So you want to avoid that. Remember, Command Z can undo any mistakes. So let's shrink my brush back down. And again, just take these one at a time, not rush it, and just do small movements to fix it. So when I zoom back out and Command Minus, now actually I noticed that I did get the hair there a little bit, so I might just kind of complete that, go over that hair again. Little small details is what really sells the image once you try to change something. So let's do Command to Minus, I can zoom back out. Another option is hitting Command Zero, and I can fit it back into the center of my screen again. So now we can see the difference between my before and after. You can see blemishes have been removed. And there you go. That's all it really takes for you in the spot healing brush. It's not a difficult tool to use, it's very fun, it's effective. And so like I said, overall, it's a pretty easy process, and I hope this lesson made it easy for you to use as well. So in our next lesson, we'll go over and use the healing brush to remove dark circles and wrinkle some under the eyes. Thanks for watching.
