In this Bloodborne Pathogens in Industrial Environments course, you'll learn what bloodborne pathogens are and how you can be exposed to them at work. We'll also cover safe work practices, biohazard labeling, and what to do after an accidental exposure. These practices are critical for protecting you and your coworkers from serious infection. Building on these foundations, we'll explore how exposure happens and how your facility keeps you protected.
We'll examine the most common bloodborne diseases, detailing how HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are transmitted and treated. You'll gain the ability to apply standard precautions and proper housekeeping, and you'll build a clear understanding of biohazard labeling and the hepatitis B vaccination program. We'll also address handwashing, decontamination, and post-exposure procedures to give you a complete understanding of bloodborne pathogen safety. By the end of this course, you'll be able to recognize exposure risks and respond correctly when an incident occurs.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify common bloodborne pathogens and their symptoms
• Explain how bloodborne pathogens are transmitted at work
• Apply standard precautions and safe work practices
• Demonstrate proper housekeeping and decontamination methods
• Outline correct steps after an accidental exposure
This course is designed for workers in industrial environments who may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens on the job and need to protect themselves and their coworkers from serious infection.
It covers what bloodborne pathogens are, how exposure happens at work, common bloodborne diseases (HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C) and how they are transmitted and treated, the exposure control plan and biohazard labeling, safe work practices and housekeeping, the hepatitis B vaccination program, handwashing and decontamination, and post-exposure procedures.
You'll build skills in hazardous material handling, incident response, and disease prevention — including applying standard precautions, performing proper housekeeping and decontamination, and responding correctly after an accidental exposure.
The course is organized into lessons covering an introduction to bloodborne pathogens in industrial environments; HIV, hepatitis, and sources of infection; the exposure control plan and labeling; reducing exposure through safe work practices and housekeeping; vaccination; accidental exposure; and a review.
