Forklift Safety for Pedestrians

When you're walking across a street, you probably know it's important to look both ways and remain alert.

When you're walking across a street, you probably know it's important to look both ways and remain alert. The same rules apply when working with vehicles that operate inside buildings as well, such as forklifts. These common workplace vehicles are powerful and heavy; while they can be a huge help in the workplace, they can also cause serious harm if forklift safety procedures aren't properly followed. While forklift operators carry a huge responsibility when using this heavy machinery, it's just as vital for pedestrians to remain alert and practice safety.

In this course on Forklift Safety for Pedestrians, we'll explain how forklift accidents occur in the workplace and what steps you, the pedestrian, can take to avoid these accidents. We'll cover topics such as keeping a safe distance, practicing operator-pedestrian awareness, and walking safely around a forklift. By the end of this course, you'll be better equipped to stay safe when working around forklifts.

Forklift Safety: For Pedestrians We've all heard this phrase at some point. Look both ways before you cross the street. That's good advice. And when you're on foot near cars, trucks or other motor vehicles, following basic safety rules like this one can help to avoid accidents and the injuries that they can cause. But the road is not the only place that you can encounter motorized vehicles. They can be present in your work environment as well. And when you're in an area where these machines are operating, you need to take many of the same precautions that you take when you're walking on a busy street and some other special ones as well. The most common motorized vehicle in many facilities is a forklift. It may look small, but it can actually weigh up to three times as much as a car. And if one's involved in an accident, people could end up being seriously injured, even killed. That's why both pedestrians and forklift operators must work together to share their space safely so that they can keep themselves and each other out of harm's way. In this program, we'll look at the causes of forklift related pedestrian incidents, the precautionary measures that facilities, forklift operators and pedestrians can take to prevent them and ways that you can stay safe around forklifts when you're on foot.
