In this Bloodborne Pathogens in Office Environments course, you'll learn what bloodborne pathogens are and how you can be exposed to them at work. We'll also cover OSHA's exposure control requirements and safe work practices. These practices are critical for protecting you from HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. With these foundations in place, we'll explore the protections that keep office workers safe from infection.
We'll examine how bloodborne pathogens spread and detail how HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C affect the body. You'll develop the ability to apply standard precautions and safe housekeeping practices, and you'll strengthen your understanding of the hepatitis B vaccination program. We'll also cover biohazard labeling, post-exposure procedures, and your employer's responsibilities to give you a complete understanding of bloodborne pathogen safety. By the end of this course, you'll know how to reduce your risk and respond to accidental exposure.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify common bloodborne pathogens transmitted through blood
• Distinguish how HIV and hepatitis affect the body
• Explain the purpose of an exposure control plan
• Apply safe work practices to reduce exposure risk
• Demonstrate the correct response to an accidental exposure
It is designed for office workers, focusing on the protections that keep employees in office environments safe from bloodborne pathogen infection.
It covers what bloodborne pathogens are, how they spread, how HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C affect the body, OSHA's exposure control requirements, safe work practices and housekeeping, the hepatitis B vaccination program, biohazard labeling, post-exposure procedures, and employer responsibilities.
You will build skills in incident response, bloodborne pathogens awareness, and disease prevention, including applying standard precautions and responding to accidental exposure.
It moves through seven lessons: an introduction to bloodborne pathogens in office environments; HIV, hepatitis and sources of infection; the exposure control plan and labeling; reducing exposure through safe work practices and housekeeping; vaccination; accidental exposure; and a review.
