In this Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Requirements course, you’ll understand how the SPCC Rule applies to transportation and logistics operations and how spill prevention works in practice. We’ll also cover facility applicability, spill prevention planning, and response expectations. Oil-handling activities create daily spill risk, so they require proactive compliance to protect water, operations, and safety. To build on that foundation, the course moves from regulatory context into day-to-day operational control.
We’ll discuss spill prevention and response requirements, detailing facility controls, inspection practices, and training expectations. You’ll build the ability to identify spill risks and apply practical prevention and response actions. We’ll also cover plan certification and updates, inspection and maintenance oversight, spill response and reporting, and ongoing training responsibilities to give you a complete understanding of SPCC compliance. By the end, you’ll be able to recognize SPCC requirements and support compliant spill prevention across your facility.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify when the SPCC Rule applies to a facility
• Explain the core components of an SPCC Plan
• Recognize spill risks during oil storage and transfer
• Apply proper spill response and containment procedures
• Support inspection, reporting, and training requirements
It is designed for people in transportation and logistics operations whose facilities handle oil, helping them recognize SPCC requirements and support compliant spill prevention across their facility.
It covers when the SPCC Rule applies and which facility types it covers, the core components of a spill prevention plan, plan certification and review, safe oil storage, site layout and containment structures, inspection of storage and transfer areas, operational changes impacting spill controls, immediate response to oil discharges, spill response equipment, reporting and documenting discharges, and training and oversight.
You will build skills in spill containment, spill response, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) — including the ability to identify spill risks and apply practical prevention and response actions.
The course moves from regulatory context — the federal rule for oil spill prevention and facility applicability — into day-to-day operational control, with lessons followed by "Test Your Knowledge" checks throughout.
