The industry life cycle will help you understand which positioning strategies might be more effective in each of the five stages of its life. Broad sector analysis will help you assess the ease or difficulty of operating in an environment based on government policies and regulations, economic conditions such as inflation and interest rates, population growth and environmental policies, and technology. Recognizing competitive forces helps with understanding the effects of existing and new competition, the availability of substitute products, and the impact of buyers and suppliers on your ability to compete profitably in an industry. Your industry analysis will explore and develop strategic positioning possibilities for your company.
