In this Electrical Safety course, you'll learn the fundamentals of electricity and the hazards it poses. We'll also examine key OSHA standards and the right protective equipment. Because most electrical fatalities happen in non-electrical jobs, these practices protect every worker. To build that protection, the course moves from how electricity works to how you can control its risks at work.
We'll explore electric current and shock, and examine hazards like arc flash and arc blast. You'll learn how to select personal protective equipment and how to prevent hazards through safe practices and circuit protection. We'll also cover fire and lightning preparedness, work in special environments, and accident response to give you a complete understanding of electrical safety. By the end of this course, you'll be ready to recognize electrical hazards and respond to emergencies safely.
Learning Objectives:
• Describe the fundamentals of electricity and its hazards.
• Identify key OSHA standards for electrical safety.
• Recognize and mitigate electrical hazards across work environments.
• Select appropriate personal protective equipment for electrical work.
• Apply procedures for responding to electrical accidents.
It is relevant to every worker, not just those in electrical jobs — the course notes that most electrical fatalities happen in non-electrical jobs, so these practices protect everyone in the workplace.
It covers the basics of electricity, electric current and shock, recognizing hazards like arc flash and arc blast, key OSHA standards, personal protective equipment, safe work practices and circuit protection (including interrupters), fire prevention and lightning preparedness, special electrical environments, and how to deal with an electrical accident.
The course builds skills in electrical safety, hazard identification, and emergency response — by the end you'll be ready to recognize electrical hazards and respond to emergencies safely.
It moves from how electricity works to how you can control its risks at work, through lessons from the basics of electricity to dealing with an electrical accident, with several 'Test Your Knowledge' checks along the way.
