Welcome to KnowledgeCity's course, "Virus Prevention." You've all heard of viruses, right? But do you know what they are? Viruses are microscopic parasites that cause us to become sick. They infect humans, plants, and animals, but the same virus may affect each organism differently. Viruses are the culprit for many illnesses. These include: the common cold, the flu, measles, Ebola, and hepatitis. The exact way the virus spreads depends on the type of virus. Although viruses require a host to make more viruses, some viruses may be able to survive on an object before spreading to another individual that touches that object. Some viruses can pass between humans and animals. Viruses can also spread person to person. This can be done through touch, coughing, sneezing or exchanging saliva, sexual contact, contaminated food or water, or even insects that carry it from person to person. Viruses are different from bacteria. Treatment for a bacterial infection, such as antibiotics, will not work for a virus infection. Let's explore some ways you can avoid becoming sick from a virus in the future.
