The Object Selection tool in Photoshop 2022. Now there's a much faster way to use the Object Selection tool in Photoshop 2022. A brand new feature called the Object Finder allows you to let Photoshop find objects across the whole image entirely on its own, rather than needing to drag around objects like in earlier versions of the program. When the Object Selection tool is active, you will find a new option in the Options bar called Object Finder. This option is turned on by default. The Object Finder allows Photoshop to analyze the whole image, looking for objects that can be selected. Let's try it. Here's a Photoshop of a woman and a computer. Say I wanna select the monitor. Well, I can do that. If the Magic Wand tool is active, you wanna go to the hidden panel under the Magic Wand tool and choose Object Selection tool. Now, when I move my mouse pointer over objects on the screen, you can see how it becomes highlighted with the silhouette. I can select anything from the woman, to the bulletin board, to the monitor, to the paper, to the keyboard. And if I wanna select one of those objects for editing I will simply click on the object that has the silhouette highlighting it. And when I move my mouse away, you'll see the marching ants around the selected object. Now that lets me do whatever it is I wanna do to select it or edit it. So say I wanna remove it from the picture altogether. I'll simply hit the delete key. Now the keyboard is gone. Turn off the marching ants or the selection by pressing Control D on the keyboard. Now, if I have done that by mistake because I did non-destructive editing over here, in my layers panel, you can see I have a background image that is a duplicate of the businesswoman layer. I can turn that back on, and it will show my keyboard again. I turn the background layer off, the keyboard is deleted once more. That's all there is to it. That's not hard at all to use the Object Selection tool with the Object Finder. In addition to having quicker options for selecting objects, we also have some layer selection options in Photoshop 2022. Have you ever been editing something on your Photoshop canvas only to complete the action and then realize you didn't have the correct layer selected? Now Photoshop will auto select layers for you depending what object you click on on your canvas. Let's take a look at this layout image. As you can see, there are quite a few layers in the file. Right now in the tools panel, I have my Move tool active. Let's say I wanna edit the time on the cell phone. You will notice that the background layer is active in the Layers panel, but as soon as I click on the time, notice what happens in my Layers panel. It automatically changed the focus from the background layer to the time layer. I can now go about editing whatever it is about the time that I need to edit. Isn't that cool? Let's try this again. Let's say I wanna select this video camera. My time layer is still selected in my Layers panel, but as soon as I click on my video camera, all of a sudden my video cam layer is now active. So I can go about with my editing and manipulation of the video cam layer.
