Hello, my name is Demetria Crawford. And in this lesson, we will review AWS S3. AWS provides several storage solutions that we are able to use. And in this instance, S3 functions very much like common storage solutions we have, such as Dropbox or a Box, where we have our data that's stored out into the internet, on the cloud. With Amazon S3, we're able to store, what we call, objects. We're used to calling them files, but in S3, we store objects. And the object storage is built to store and retrieve any amount of data from anywhere. So there is unlimited capacity, you could store as much as you want. And then you're charged based off of how much data, the size, and amount that you have. So, when we think about storage, we have to identify what we're using the storage for. We can store our Log files that we can have other services that accesses to find information and then provide some type of notification, we can have Application data that's stored there, videos and pictures, we can use backups and create snapshots of our EC2s and keep them in S3 buckets. So what we can do with S3 is almost limitless. It's not completely limitless, there are some restrictions and things that we can't do, such as mounting to have network storage. But, as far as what we store in S3, you can pretty much store any type of file that you like as long as it doesn't go over the maximum amount of file size per storage. Now, you can move your data to Amazon S3 from anywhere, it lives in the cloud and not on-premise. Your data is automatically backed up by AWS. The thing about AWS that we have to remember with S3 is that it is automatically stored across multiple availability zones. You are also able to access data across regions as well. So with S3, we're able to store our data by creating, what's called, buckets. We don't use folders with S3, we have buckets, because it has a flat infrastructure, so it's not hierarchical where we have a folder within a folder. We have a bucket, and within that bucket, we have objects. So you can create a bucket, specify which Region you want the bucket to be in, and then apply your access controls and management options, and then upload any amount of data that you like. So the options we have, we can create policies to state who can access the data in the buckets. We can apply policy to buckets. We can optimize the cost by using different types of storage classes, which we're gonna talk about a little bit more in some of the other modules we have coming. You can replicate your data across regions, and then you can access it from on-premise or throughout your VPCs. Most importantly, you can provide protection and security of your data. And then you can gain visibility into the data that you have. As I mentioned, you can use something such as Lambda to where you can have a actual service that is performing some type of action when a specific occurrence happens. For example, anytime a photo is loaded into the media bucket that we create, Lambda will automatically take and resize this image based off of the device that is accessing it. That's an example of how we can integrate S3 into multiple things, multiple services that we're running. We can have our log data automatically saved in S3 buckets. Therefore, we're not having to store or maintain data storage on-premise, which saves us in cost and time. Other things we can do is we can analyze data that's stored on S3. We can use Artificial Intelligence or Advanced analytics to actually go through the data we have in S3, and then provide some form of action.
