In this course on Accessibility Design and Assistive Technologies, you will learn about design theory for accessibility and assistive technologies for impaired individuals. We will identify and discuss multimedia challenges for individuals with visual or hearing impairments. We will also identify and discuss input device challenges for those with disabilities or impairments.
There are a variety of devices and software systems designed to help impaired or disabled individuals access and navigate websites. Among these devices are screen readers, touch screen readers, microphones, head pointers, and adaptive keyboards. Because of this, website designers and developers need to be aware of potential challenges and code for a variety of disabilities and input devices. In this course, we will review the accessible design theory and discuss designing websites for a variety of accessibility needs including: visual, keyboard, touch, audio, and assistive technologies. We will look at the different methods impaired individuals use to access and navigate websites.
