In this lesson, we'll take a look to see what all the noise is about. What is the fastest growing language? You guessed it, Kotlin. Kotlin has been the fastest growing language for the past two years according to SlashData, and they say that Kotlin has over one million developers. Stack Overflow says the Kotlin is becoming developers' favorite programming language. JetBrains, the makers of Kotlin, says that 95 out of the Fortune 100 companies use JetBrains tools, so it's only a matter of time before they actually use Kotlin. And according to a JetBrains survey, more than a third of developers are migrating their existing projects over to Kotlin. According to Stack Overflow, Kotlin is the fourth most loved programming language. So why is Kotlin important? Well, Google made it the preferred language for Android development. That sent Kotlin into the stratosphere of importance. If the largest mobile platform prefers Kotlin, then that brings a lot of heft to the game. So what is Kotlin used for? Well, mostly mobile app development, but it's also used for desktop development, web development, server-side development, data science apps, and native app development. Kotlin can be used on the backend. And Kotlin can also compile with JavaScript, making it available for the frontend. And Kotlin Native is on the rise, so that will let Kotlin run without getting a virtual machine involved. And, of course, Kotlin can also be used with embedded systems. So who uses it and where is it used? Several famous apps were developed in Kotlin. For instance, Evernote was developed in Kotlin. Trello, Square, Basecamp, and Pinterest were all developed in Kotlin. That gives you an idea of why people like Kotlin and where it is used. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for the next lesson.
