Fires are always dangerous, but fires in HAZMAT environments can be especially deadly. Burning chemicals can release toxic fumes and gases that can impact the health and safety of anyone on the worksite and even the surrounding community. The best way to fight these kinds of fires is to prevent them from occurring in the first place, using fire prevention standards set out by HAZWOPER guidelines.
In this course, we’ll discuss the various components and causes of a fire, along with ways to identify different types or classes of fire. You will learn some of the dangers that are unique to chemicals fires, as well as how to inspect your work area for fire hazards. We will also cover the differences between flammable and combustible materials, and how each should be handled in a work environment. By the end of this course, you will understand the basics of fire prevention, fire response, and evacuation measures to take in the event of a fire.
