The <a href=\"https:\/\/metoomvmt.org\/\">Me Too<\/a> movement fueled organizations to address and train employees to understand what sexual harassment is and how to prevent it from happening in the workplace. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The problem lies in developing and delivering training when companies are not sure how to proceed. California began leading the way in late 2018 by requiring mandatory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/losangeles\/news\/2019\/01\/22\/is-your-company-ready-for-the-new-california-law.html\">sexual harassment training<\/a> for everyone. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonlewis.com\/publication\/new-california-law-requires-sexual-harassment-prevention-training-supervisors-and-non-supervisors\">previous law<\/a> existed since 2005, covering California organizations with more than 50 employees, the training was only required for supervisors and managers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Is Sexual Harassment Training?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/\">(EEOC)<\/a>\u00a0defines sexual harassment as: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and or verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when such conduct:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explicitly or implicitly affects an individual\u2019s employment<\/li>\n<li>Unreasonably interferes with an individual\u2019s work performance<\/li>\n<li>Creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sexual harassment is the most common type of workplace harassment. The first step in preventing and eliminating sexual harassment involves educating all members of the workplace on sexual harassment and acceptable behaviors. Managers and supervisors must be given additional specialized training on how to properly handle cases of sexual harassment. The final step is setting up a process for when sexual harassment occurs handling complaints, investigations and corrective measures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Needs To Take Sexual Harassment Training?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All members of an organization&#8217;s workplace including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees<\/li>\n<li>Managers<\/li>\n<li>Supervisors<\/li>\n<li>Contract Workers<\/li>\n<li>Volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Managers and supervisors must be given additional specialized training on how to properly train employees, prevent an assault and handle cases of sexual harassment. It is also a key attribute to the success of the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Why is behavior important in the workplace? Ensuring that all employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knowledgecity.com\/blog\/work-environments-increase-chances-sexual-harassment\/\">conduct themselves in a professional<\/a> manner promotes the safety and well-being of both individuals and the entire company. Sexual harassment is forbidden under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The California Fair Employment and Housing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfeh.ca.gov\/\">Act<\/a>\u00a0protects applicants, employees, unpaid interns, professional relationships and independent contractors from sexual harassment<\/li>\n<li>Establish consequences for infractions.
